The NZ Pony & Young Rider Dressage Championship Show (January 2010), will allow all enthusiastic young riders the chance to showcase their talents before national selectors.
Dressage New Zealand plans to make the Championship Show, being held at Taupo Equestrian Centre from January 9-10 (2010), a talent spotting show.
"It's a chance for all young riders, no matter whether they are seasoned competitors or new to the sport to come along and show themselves off to our National Selectors," said Dressage New Zealand Sport Manager Wendy Hamerton.
"We're really keen to see young riders from all over New Zealand having a go at this show - it is not just for our high-end performers but we want to encourage all riders aged under 21 into competing in a supportive environment like this."
All three national dressage selectors will be in attendance at the Young Rider Dressage Championships, making it an ideal opportunity for up and coming young riders, as well as newcomers, to be identified.
As well as a host of national Young Rider titles up for grabs, the show is a superb training ground for performing tests in a competitive environment, with plenty of inspiration and support from judges and all involved.
"We're really proud of this show," said Young Rider Championship convenor Lynne Holmes.
"It's a wonderful breeding ground for the future stars of our sport and we make every effort to ensure all the competitors are well looked after and have every opportunity to learn from the experience of this show.
"We're hoping to encourage lots of new participants. We'd love to see more people getting involved and having a go."
An Australian team will return to participate in the hotly contested Derby competition, taking on selected New Zealand riders who will be hoping to win the trophy back from 2009 winners Australia.Musical freestyle classes will be counted as qualifiers for the Horse of the Year Show, but will not count for points on the leaderboards.
The hotly contested Hanoverian Society Sash (plus $100) will again be awarded to the highest scoring Hanoverian of the competition. This year's winner was Rebecca Goldsbury with Avant Garde (Anamour/Dynamit, bred by Debbie Smith). Rebecca and Avant Garde won the level 4 Championship at the show.
The schedule for the event will be in the October Bulletin.
