Kelt Capital Horse of the Year Show 2009: Hanoverians in the dressage lineups

With 48 points, Louisa Hill and Bates Antonello (Anamour/Flair, by Winnebago, bred by the Hills) had to be content with second place, 2 points behind Kallista Field's unregistered Weltmeyer mare, Waikiwi. Lisa Blackbourn and her Dutch bred stallion, Prestige VDL (now approved for breeding with Hanoverian classified mares), gained third place with 44 points; Kate Klingender and the Anamour/Sovereign Dynasty xx gelding, Adler, bred by Mr J.C Holmes and Mrs K. Holmes Bowen came into fifth place with 37 points.
Level 5 Horse of the Year 2009
In this level, Andrea Bank and the approved, German-bred Hanoverian stallion, Limonit (Lancier/Weltadel) were second in the title points with 42.5; Australian bred Gymstar One (Gymnastic Star/Daktylus) with Penny Castle were fourth with 37, while only one point behind them, Catherine Scott and Aspiration (Anamour/Bletchencore xx, bred by Jenny Veitch), came sixth.
In the Level 5 Musical Freestyle, Limonit was second again, with Aspiration third and Gymstar One fifth.
Level 4 Horse of the Year 2009
Level 4 presented some close competition, but the title was taken by Sue Hobson's Aristoc, (Anamour/Cinnamon, by Witzbold, bred by Gary and Wendy Freeman of Bilbar Lodge) with 48 points. Geldof MH (Gymnastic Star/Allermund), bred by Judith and Peter Matthews of Matthews Hanoverians) was fourth with 41.5 points, and fifth was Amador (Anamour/ Allermund, bred by Angela Tovey) with Fiona Craig on 37 points.
Level 3 Horse of the Year 2009
Second place went to the Matthews Hanoverian bred Domino MH (Dream Boy/Anamour/Weltmeyer), with Susan Tomlin; the pair had 45.5 points.
Level 2 Horse of the Year 2009
In Level 2, German imported riding stallion, Awakino Banesto (Bergamon/Matcho AA) and Vanessa Way with 48.5 points, were the title winners, a point and a half ahead of Susan Tomlin and her other Matthews Hanoverian bred mount, Giusto MH (Gymnastic Star/Graf Landau).
We warmly congratulate Jody Hartstone of Raglan for her well-deserved success on her old Campaigner, the Holsteiner stallion, Landioso. As we all know by now, the pair won the title Grand Prix Horse of the Year 2009, as well as the CDI*** Musical Freestyle.
Charlott Bayliss and her Anamour/Little Brown Jug xx mount, All Black II, bred by Mary Wilson, achieved 4th place in the freestyle, and 5th placing in the title points.
Bates NZ Dressage Championships 2009
The 2009 Bates NZ Dressage Championships (supported by the Lion Foundation) were held at McLean's Island March 6-9. Hanoverian horses were well represented in the placings.

Doornbos Trophy LEVEL 4 CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS
It was a battle over the three days, between Sue Hobson's Aristoc (Anamour/Cinnamon,
by Witzbold, breeders Gary and Wendy Freeman of Bilbar Lodge) and The Matthews
Hanoverian bred Geldof MH (Gymnastic Star/All Grace, by Allermund), ridden by Sarah Matheson-Reay. Finally, Aristoc prevailed to win the Doornbos trophy for the Level 4 Championship, with Geldof MH taking Reserve Champion.
Perhaps one to keep an eye on is Autumn Gift, (Anamour/Chandallah Gifted Girl by Genius, bred by Gary and Wendy Freeman), with rider James Duncan. This pair was there consistently in 5th or 6th place.
Tuna Lodge Trophy LEVEL 3 CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS
In this level, Apollo 4 with Tracey Johnson and Domino MH (Dream Boy/Anamour/Weltmeyer, from the Matthews Hanoverians breeding programme), with Susan Tomlin
fought it out. Apollo 4 emerged the clear winner to take the Championship, while Domino MH was Reserve Champion.
One to watch is Soo Wells with KH Anastasia, consistently nipping at the leaders' heels in 4th or 5th place.
Killala Trophy LEVEL 2 CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS
Susan Tomlin and the Matthews Hanoverian bred Giusto MH gave Julie Brougham and her Australian bred Kinnordy Glogau a good run for the money. However, in the final, Glogau won the Championship, with Giusto and Susan in reserve place. Both horses are by Gymnastic Star; Giusto MH is out of a mare by Graf Landau.
Aztec Trophy LEVEL 1 CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS
Reserve Anya Durling Rosari Guest Star (Gymnastic Star/Donna, by De Niro, bred by Fiona McCrostie of Rosari Hanoverians).
The Glenvar Trophy for Breeder of Best Placed NZL bred Young Dressage Horse was won by Judith Matthews - Matthews Hanoverians.
Astec Stud Young Dressage Horse Champion of Champions was Domino MH, owned by Susan Tomlin, bred by Judith and Peter Matthews.
