Donnerhall, Rubenstein, Weltmeyer
Without a doubt, these three dressage sires have had the most profound influence in the breeding of dressage horses the world over.
Doringcourt, an imported riding horse directly descended from Donnerhall and Rubenstein through his sire, will give a ridden display at the New Zealand Hanoverian Society's Grand Parade, which will take place at Abderry Farm in Patumahoe, South Auckland, on Sunday, March 15th 2009.
The six year old riding stallion, Doringcourt, is by the Donnerhall/Rubenstein stallion, Dressage Royal, out of a mare by Glueckspilz. He was bred in Germany and purchased by the Bank family, but was held up in quarantine in Australia for a year, because of the EI outbreak.
In Germany, Volker Dusche broke in Doringcourt and Leonie Bramell started him off in his riding career. He competed successfully in Germany, winning young horse and prelim classes with over 80%. Doringcourt has also enjoyed competition success since his arrival here, and was level two Champion at Dressage Waitemata Championships in November 2008. Doringcourt will be ridden in his display by his rider, Andrea Bank.
Lauries Crusador: a noble refiner
Another important German stallion is the Thoroughbred Lauries Crusador xx, (Welsh Pageant xx/High Top xx), whose bloodline has come into NZ via his grandson, the Hanoverian licensed and performance tested breeding stallion, Limonit. Limonit will also give a ridden display at the Parade.
Limonit is no stranger to NZ dressage enthusiasts and Hanoverian breeders. He was imported in 2005 by Ad Astra Hanoverians in Dairy Flat and his first NZ foals were born in 2006. He passed his performance test in Adelheidsdorff in 2002, gaining third place out of 50 stallions.
Ridden at limited outings by Andrea Bank, Limonit has enjoyed competitive success in NZ, most recently winning the Open Medium title at Waitemata Dressage Championships in November 2008. Limonit's damsire, Weltadel, is by the third member of that great dressage breeding trio, the legendary dressage sire, Weltmeyer.
